Wetlands Delineations - California Coastal Commission

The Corps does not exclusively rule the wetlands delineation least in this neck of the woods. The Los Cerritos Wetlands are found in the "coastal zone." Wetlands found in the "coastal zone" are regulated under the California Coastal Act of 1976 and the federal Coastal Zone Management Act, and are within the jurisdiction of the California Coastal Commission (CCC).

Section 30121 of the Coastal Act defines wetlands accordingly, "lands within the coastal zone which may be covered periodically or permanently with shallow water and includes saltwater marshes, freshwater marshes, open or closed brackish water marshes, swamps, mudflats and fens."
